Diabetes – It Can be the Reason behind Other Disorders

Diabetes raises your chance of developing a number of diseases. If you’ve got diabetes, that’s not the only disease you should be concerned about. Diabetes is linked to many other health problems. “If you can control your diabetes, then your risk of developing those complications and secondary conditions goes down.”

Cardiovascular diseases and Strokes:

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death in people who have diabetes. High blood sugar can cause a gradual buildup of fatty deposits that clog and harden the walls of blood vessels which may causes Strokes or Heart attacks.

Reduce the risk by:

  • Quit Smoking
  • Regular Physical Exercise
  • Well balanced and healthy diet for heart

Kidney diseases:

Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney failure. At least half of all people with diabetes may have signs of early kidney problems. Diabetes can raise the risk of chronic kidney disease. In some cases Kidney diseases may leads to hypertension which may causes heart problems.

Reduce the risk by:

  • If high blood pressure is the problem follow the required measures suggested by the doctor to control the blood pressure.
  • Avoid high protein diet and undergo regular urine tests.

Nerve disorders:

Diabetes can often lead to nerve disorders. Nerve damage may also be caused by inflammation. Diabetic neuropathy can give you symptoms of pain, numbness or tingling in your legs and toes, arms and fingers. Also, some digestive disorders like nausea, indigestion or constipation.

Reduce the risk by:

  • Balancing the blood glucose levels in a healthy range.
  • Quit smoking and alcohol.

There are mainly two reasons diabetes leads to amputations of feet or legs. Due to diabetes the blood vessels became narrowed which interrupts the regular flow of blood to lower parts of the body. By this irregular blood flow cuts or sores on the feet or legs will get worse instead of better. Also, due to diabetes you may not feel the pain of a foot problem leading to the Amputation.

Reduce the risk by:

  • Take proper care to the feet by cleansing them and inspecting them everyday
  • Avoid things might hurt your feet.

Vision loss:

Diabetes may causes blockages or abnormal growth of blood vessels in the retina. Blood vessel changes in the retina can lead to vision problems and even blindness.

Reduce the risk by:

  • Get full eye checkups regularly.
  • Consult doctor immediately if you face any challenges in the vision

For good health it is better to keep your blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol levels in control.
